Thoughtful Thursdays: ‘Tis the season

Enjoy, Respect, Protect
Our Choice
This Friday is our annual World Holiday Traditions celebration, and this year our young visitors will create holiday greeting cards from recycled materials for our service men and women. National Aquarium staff and volunteers have been collecting used holiday cards for this very special arts-and-crafts activity. The recycled cards will be delivered to U.S. military, veterans, and their families, many of whom will be far away from home this holiday season, through the Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes program.

Your Choice
Join us for our World Holiday Traditions celebration this Friday evening to make a holiday greeting card from recycled materials for our service men and women. For those of you who can’t join us this Friday, here are some other great ideas for up-cycling your used greeting cards that we found online:

With YOU, we make a difference

Tis the season for family, friends, and fish!  All three were in abundance last weekend as the National Aquarium celebrated Dollar Days Weekend and welcomed more than 13,000 people with $1 admission price despite the snowy, cold weather. Near-capacity crowds filled the Aquarium on both days, eager to escape the cold, enjoy the tropical temperatures of the Rainforest and see the Aquarium’s newest exhibit, Jellies Invasion.

Dollar Days Weekend has been a tradition since the National Aquarium opened in 1981. It started as a way to thank our local community for welcoming the Aquarium to Baltimore, and it remains an important community event on the Aquarium’s calendar, and a celebration of the holiday season!

The holiday season is a time to give thanks and reflect on what is important to us. At the National Aquarium, we are grateful that we live on a watery world, full of mystery and life.  Our community includes individuals who share values of family, education, and environmental responsibility. We put these values into practice year after year through our conservation initiatives, engaging education programs, and world-class exhibits.

The video below takes a look back on all we shared in 2009.  Thank you for being a part of our work and success this past year.
