Celebrating World Oceans Day with Dr. Seuss

The National Aquarium is proud to join hundreds of other educational institutions, conservation organizations and thousands of individuals in dozens of countries around the world to celebrate our shared waters. World Oceans Day – held every year on June 8 – is an opportunity to honor Earth’s oceans and our personal connection to the sea.

The Aquarium has joined forces with The Ocean Project and Dr. Seuss to create a big splash for World Oceans Day 2010. Dr. Seuss’ beloved children’s book, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, is celebrating 50 fun-filled years  of entertaining kids around the world.

Watch the Aquarium’s special tribute here:

Today at the Aquarium, visitors enjoyed special animal encounters, a sustainable seafood education cart, a recycling activity, crafts and other fun and educational activities to share what we enjoy about our oceans and what we can do to keep them healthy and blue!

World Oceans Day kicks off Beyond the Boardwalk, a month of fun programs and events designed to explore the beauty of the underwater world, the ocean’s connection to local waterways, and the role we all play in protecting our big blue planet.

Now through June 26, join us in Baltimore and Washington, DC, for Beyond the Boardwalk. View the schedule of events here.

Great article. My class really enjoyed reading it for our blog article day this week. Last week we read this article about Dr. Seuss that we liked as well.
