Turn off. Take action.

This Saturday, the National Aquarium will join millions of people and organizations around the world in supporting Earth Hour. Sponsored by World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Earth Hour asks individuals, businesses, government leaders and others to turn out all non-essential lighting for one hour as a movement to show support for our planet and a sustainable future.

In 2009, the National Aquarium joined nearly one billion people from 4,100 cities in 87 countries by turning out our lights. Our Baltimore building stood in the dark alongside hundreds of international cities and iconic landmarks ranging from the Las Vegas Strip to St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City to the Great Pyramids of Giza. Last year’s images are a powerful statement:

On Saturday, March 27, between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Earth Hour will once again cascade across the globe. The National Aquarium will once again “go dark” – and this year we encourage you to participate with us.  Click here to pledge your participation in Earth Hour and show support for the Aquarium’s participation. Together, we can show the worldwide community that the National Aquarium and all of its supporters are committed to making behavioral changes for the environment.

Nice to see you drawing attention to Earth Hour. We did it in my household and I have seen a number of other bloggers say how much they enjoyed not only doing something positive but also an hour of enforced “down time”.
